We are being asked by numerous couples whether or not they will need to cancel or postpone their weddings due to the Covid-19 pandemic and would the policy react accordingly.
Following the NZ Government’s recent announcement that all large scale events will need to be cancelled, we aren’t expecting the same guidelines to be forced upon small events such as weddings.
However, like yourself, we just don’t know.
Whilst our policy excludes cancellation or postponement due to communicable disease, we are extremely keen to continue to provide some level of cover should the unexpected happen.
Therefore, we are happy to extend your policy should you have to make the difficult decision and postpone to a later date. We certainly hope it doesn’t come to this but please do not hesitate to contact us should the need arise.

Following the announcement by the World Health Organisation that Covid-19 has been declared a pandemic, we wanted to take the opportunity to provide an update to our couples who have already purchased their Wedding Cover and whose weddings are yet to take place.
Your Wedding Cover policy contains a standard exclusion whereby cancellation or postponement caused by any Communicable Disease or the fear or threat thereof is EXCLUDED, unless the venue is closed by or under the order of any government or public or local authority as a sole and direct result of a Communicable Disease which originates and manifests itself within the confines of the venue.
For clarification, Communicable Disease means any disease capable of being transmitted from an infected person or species to a susceptible host, either directly or indirectly.
For those couples who purchased Wedding Cover after Jan 23rd 2020, a further specific Covid-19 exclusion has also been applied to each policy, and couples should have received this exclusion along with their policy documents.
With the recent announcement by the NZ Government for New Zealanders to avoid non-essential travel overseas, we understand that there may be concerns for those couples who’s weddings are taking place outside of New Zealand. We therefore ask that you contact us to discuss your policy coverage further.
Basically the message to our couples is that although the product/policy excludes cancellation and/or postponement due to this pandemic (as standard) we are there to accommodate the new rescheduled date and would recommend couples who have had to reschedule but aren’t currently insured, to also consider taking out Wedding Cover as there are so many unexpected factors that could contribute to a cancellation.
