Lavender Hill

Every December and January its slopes are alive with the purple and blue flowers. Imagine them as a backdrop to your wedding!

Or perhaps you just enjoy being in a rural setting where there are sheep and alpacas running around in the fields, and bees buzzing at the hive near groves of olive and lemon trees.

Now a member of the Tui Hills Group of wedding venues, Lavender Hill in Riverhead near Auckland, has begun hosting marquee weddings each summer, starting in October this year (2020).

As part of the packages, couples – and the rest of the wedding party if that’s desired – stay in the barn on site, which is a beautifully appointed four-bedroom boutique hotel, suitable for four couples, with two lounge areas and self-catering.

The accommodation for two nights, plus breakfast, is included so that the venue is exclusively available for the wedding. And who wouldn’t want to spend a day preparing and then a day relaxing after the big event.

Tui Hills’ CEO Ruth Carpenter says she’s excited to be able to start hosting weddings each summer at a working lavender and olive farm which adds the sort of authenticity modern couples are looking for.

“Couples can enjoy a perfect summers day, with the scent of lavender in the air as the sun sets over the distant city. What can be more romantic!

“And brides in particular are just loving the idea of being able to wake up on the morning of the wedding, get ready on site and watch the preparations begin. It really maximises the experience over the whole weekend.”

Food for the venue is being provided by Tui Hills’ head chef David O’Leary, with a brief of “farmhouse gourmet.”

“In practice that means a range of menus at different price points, from familiar kiwi favourites to a selection which is ideal for true foodies,” says Ruth.

“Plated meals and barbeque dining are options, plus you can go with a canape-style of dining where guests lounge under the trees in the afternoon sun if the weather is at its best.”

The weddings will also showcase the wonderful products Lavender Hill produces when not hosting nuptials. That includes lavender and saffron gin, plus limoncello and olive oil.

The marquee, which will be assembled only in summer, will be big enough to seat 60 guests.

“We wanted Lavender Hill to be unlike other venues, with a special New Zealand feel, as if couples were marrying on the family farm. But that doesn’t mean there is anything less than the high standard of service we’re known for,” says Ruth.

“All the wonderful planning options available at Tui Hills are also available at the new venue just 20 minutes away. That includes Concierge weddings where our team organises photographer, celebrant, styling and the cake. Brides in particular are finding this a a huge stress-reliever.”
