We decided to get married at The Winehouse in Queenstown. It’s a beautiful spot, located at the gateway to Gibbston, with mountainous views and it’s picture-perfect in March.
We had recently moved to the South Island and had family flying over from the UK and Australia, so we thought Queenstown would be the perfect place to show off New Zealand – it’s so idyllic.
The bridal bouquet was full of pockets of succulents alongside beautiful white roses and lilies.
Finding the right dress was so important to me. I wanted to be comfortable on the day but feel great at the same time.
My Aunty brought my Grandmother’s aquamarine ring for me to wear on the day, all the way from the UK. She needed to take out special insurance so it could travel! That was so special to me, and I wore it on the day.
The groom and groomsmen also had succulents in their button holes. After the wedding, we took them home and planted them in our garden, which serves as a wonderful reminder of the day.
I spent the morning of the wedding getting ready with my mum, mother-in-law and bridesmaids and sipping champagne. It was then that they surprised me with a gift from Tim, which was a wonderful start to what was going to be a memorable day.
My bridesmaids were my best friend and my sister. Their dresses were a shade of lilac. They had a structured bodice and were chiffon from the waist down.
If I can give one piece of advice, it would be that it doesn’t need to be stressful. Make a list of things you need to get done and tick it off. Our wedding was booked and planned within four months.
When it came to the food, we wanted small plated dishes so that guests could try a number of different options. We chose a menu of beef, New Zealand lamb and prawns among others.
