We’re crazy lucky in New Zealand to have the breadth of beautiful landscapes that we do. From sand dune beaches to snow-capped mountains, golden fields of tussock to lush native forests, it’s no surprise that more and more couples are choosing to stay closer to home for their honeymoon or, mini-moon.

We all know weddings are expensive affairs, so for many couples a far-flung honeymoon straight after tying the knot is just not realistic for both the budget and work commitments. That’s where a quick getaway in our own backyard is the perfect chance to take a few days for just yourselves without breaking the bank. Our pick for an unforgettable start to married life? The glamping honeymoon!

Camping is almost a rite of passage for Kiwis, but glamping takes it up a notch. It’s camping, but glam, and it has well and truly been on the rise. In the past year Kiwis were the first most likely in the world to Google ‘luxury glamping’ and fourth in the world for Googling ‘glamping’, with Aucklanders the most keen to add glamping to their plans.

ENJOY NATURE IN LUXURY

Glamping is the perfect option for couples who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of town but still have an incredibly luxurious experience. You’ll find most glamping sites will come fully equipped with all the trimmings that you just wouldn’t find with camping.

Kiwi couple Libby and Clive chose to honeymoon in New Zealand after a three-day wedding in Marlborough. “We honeymooned at the Awaroa Lodge in the Abel Tasman National Park. The week was spent relaxing and just spending time together away from the entire world. We kept things very simple – ate, walked and drank!”

Jack and Janelle had an overseas honeymoon planned later in the year, but needed a chance to unwind after saying ‘I do’. “We mini-mooned to D’urville Island in the Marlborough Sounds, an incredibly remote spot to relax and unwind. We then went to Bali for our honeymoon as a winter getaway.”
