Sean proposed on Chinese New Year during our family dinner, after three years of dating. I was particularly touched because I know how shy he is, so it would’ve taken a lot of courage to do it in public.

Our ceremony and reception were held at The Farm at Cape Kidnappers in the Hawke’s Bay. Sean and I love golf, so we thought choosing a golf resort would be a great way to reflect us. Plus, I loved the vibe and the rich, vintage décor of the venue – it was the perfect fit.

The venue directed our styling and colour palette, which was flawlessly brought to life by our wedding planner and stylist Danielle from Oh! Such Style. We leaned towards white and blush with accents of pale blue, beige and dark green to give the look more depth. The pale pink tied in beautifully with the bridesmaids’ blush off-the-shoulder dresses, and we incorporated the creams and blues throughout the venue into our candles and stationery suite.

Magdalen Hill created the breathtaking floral installations across our day, including the magnificent floral ground altar at our outdoor ceremony, the elaborate table centrepieces consisting of climbing vines, foliage and masses of white flowers, and of course the lush bouquets, sprinkled with blush and white garden roses and branches of manuka.

I wore two gowns, both custom-made by Hera Couture in Auckland. The first was a mermaid-style white dress, featuring shoestring straps and a lace halter-neck. I accessorised with a veil, Cartier and Tiffany & Co. jewellery and sparkly Christian Louboutin heels. My floor-length reception gown was in a deep red, embroidered with beads and red feathers sweeping down and around the skirt.

Sean sported a tailored dark blue, three-piece suit by Crane Brothers worn with a crisp white shirt, white tie and Dolce & Gabbana shoes.

We had a delicious two-tiered cake by Pretty Little Details in two scrumptious flavours, chocolate caramel and tiramisu, which were especially chosen to complement our five-course degustation menu. Volume DJ got the party started with great music picks. An absolute highlight was seeing Sean’s parents rocking out to ’90s pop at the end of the day. It was so heartwarming to see everyone having a blast.

Something I learned: Make the most of what your venue has to offer and bring it into your colour palette. This way everything will flow together cohesively and effortlessly.
