With my family living in the United Kingdom and Tim’s family in New Zealand, we weren’t sure which country to get married in. It wasn’t until my parents told me about Woodhall Manor in Suffolk – which is spectacular – that we decided to wed in the UK. I adore ivy, and seeing the manor covered in it took my breath away. It was unlike any venue we had seen in New Zealand.

Invitations were posted, complete with a storybook I designed with La La Land-inspired illustrations. A base palette of navy with gold foil and burgundy was the trio of tones we used throughout the planning to bring an enchanted forest theme to life. We lined each invitation box with tissue paper, dried rose petals and gold flakes, before placing the storybook and info inside – finished with gold cord and a gift tag.

Envisioning plenty of wild flowers, moss and trailing ivy on our wedding day, my mum became a magician: lovingly creating the flower arrangements, including the floral arch for the ceremony, the aisle and seating décor, as well as the ivy waterfall effect on my bouquet.

For the reception, five round tables accommodated our 50 guests, and my new husband and I sat alongside our parents at a head table. Our centrepieces were unique: five-foot-tall trees in moss-covered pots, placed on giant logs and adorned with fairy lights. Each table setting featured a shimmering gold dinner plate, white linen napkin and a red robin (which doubled as a Christmas decoration guest favour).

I picked out my Stella York gown for its soft layered handkerchief skirt and buttons down the back. Originally strapless, I took it to talented seamstress Rosita Ross in London who added off-the-shoulder lace sleeves, softened the neckline and added crystals to the front of the gown. I accessorised with a shimmery tulle veil, a gift from my Ninnin (grandma), Jenny Packham heels, Swarovski crystal drop earrings and a fur wrap to keep me warm.

It was a dream to have a white (UK winter) wedding. I feel so lucky, and many of my crazy ideas came to life thanks to my brilliant and creative mum. It was a day I’ll never forget.
