Ryan and I met in August 2012 in Leeds thanks to an online dating site. Ryan came and met me at the train station and thankfully I had 'good shoes' on so he stuck around and I spotted him. We went and had some drinks and food and the rest, as they say, is history. In November 2014 I thought I had arranged the biggest surprise by buying tickets to the England vs All Blacks game at Twickenham, but Ryan had a different idea. Before we set off that morning he made me breakfast in bed and on the tray was a box. Inside was the ring I had described to him, absolutely beautiful. I looked up and said "Really?", he just laughed and said 'Yeah, why not?". Needless to say we had an amazing weekend.
We both knew straight away that we wanted to get married in New Zealand. We originally planned on 2016 but happily discovered our first child was due May 2016 so we pushed the date back and were married at Mudbrick Vineyard on Waiheke Island in February 2017 surrounded by 40 friends and family.
My dress was from Ghost in the UK and was very simple in Ivory. It was fitted with a small train, a low scoop back and I had pearls sown under the bust to give it some personal detail. I bought a pearl back necklace and then wore a pearl bracelet with a charm containing photos of my folks; a family heirloom.
We were lucky enough to have Ryan's Aunt make us an amazing three tiered carrot cake with the most incredible icing and decoration!
The whole day was one long highlight. Being a British girl it was just unbelievable to be getting married somewhere as beautiful as NZ in the first place but walking down the steps at Mudbrick to see Ryan waiting there surrounded by family and friends was pretty magical. To have Isaac with us as well at 9 months old was also really special.
My only piece of advice is to stay true to yourselves and don't let other people sway what you want on your special day. Also a spray primer under your make-up is a life saver!
