Jacob and I met through friends in high school. We became really good friends and eventually started dating. I pretty much knew straight away that this was the guy for me. In October 2016 we were going on our first big overseas holiday together, spending a month travelling the USA. We arrived in Las Vegas and treated ourselves to to a five star stay at The Cosmopolitan. Our room was beyond amazing, overlooking the sunset strip. After dinner we were watching the incredible sunset from our hotel balcony when all of a sudden I turned around and Jacob was down on one knee asking me to marry him. After the initial shock, I of course said yes. We were engaged for a year and a half and married in April 2018 at The Red Barn in Waikato surrounded by 65 friends and family.

I had an idea of what I wanted in a dress. I searched online for a dressmaker that could make my dream dress and found Ivory & Stone in Wanaka. I wanted a dress that would compliment my figure so that I could feel confident and beautiful on the day. I had always wanted long lace sleeves as I think they're super elegant. The skirt portion of the dress was a tiny bit princess witih layers of tulle. I've since been told that my look was very ethereal, which is quite a nice compliment.

My  bridesmaids wor burgundy dresses from Lulu's USA. I chose a style that I think suited all body shapes, complimented my wedding dress and, of course, would be comfortable to wear the whole day. Jacob and his groomsmen wore navy suits with brown accessories. They also had two sets of bow ties, formal ones for the ceremony and for the reception they had party bow ties reflecting their favourite NFL teams. This made for a fun personal touch and a great keepsake from the wedding.

All of our dining tables at our reception were named after places that Jacob and I had travelled together. At each place on the table, we had a photograph that we had taken in that location on our travels and a little caption that explained the photo or shared a fun little fact about that moment. It was a fun way for people to get a snapshot into our lives and also add a personal touch to the reception! All of our dining tables at our reception were named after places that Jacob and I had travelled together. I really liked that our flowers looked like they had just been picked. I briefed my florist on a romantic, unstructured feel. I went for white and tones of pink, keeping things pretty simple and just beautiful. I trusted my florist to create bouqets based on the brief and I was really happy with her work. She also made my beautiful flower crown, which I now have drying at home.

My maid of honour owns her own baking business, Delectable Delights, so I was really lucky to have her create our beautiful cake. We both loved the look of naked cakes so we chose a two tier naked cake. One tier was white chocolate and the other was vanilla. It was incredibly delicoius.

One of the most special moments was walking down the aisle with my dad. He knew I was nervous so he made us pause at the top of the steps and said "let's just go slow, no rush". It was a really nice moment between us and made me feel more excited about reaching Jacob at the end of the aisle.

Hire vendors that you feel truly comfortable with and have great conversations with. On your wedding day you spend hours with your hair and makeup vendors, your photographers etc, so make sure that you mesh well together. It will make things a lot less “vendor and client” and you might even end up with some new friends after the wedding!
