Amid flickering candles, Hannah Downes and Campbell McLean celebrated their marriage in a lavish affair – the epitome of modern elegance.

Campbell's proposal didn't quite go to plan – we were on holiday in Bali and it happened to be on the only rainy day, then I accidentally found out he was going to propose! Despite this, we were on cloud nine, celebrating with champagne and copious amounts of delicious seafood.

Our ceremony was held at Auckland's grand St Matthew-in-the-City and we strolled to the Quay Project in Britomart for the reception. We loved the raw simplicity of this venue. It was the ideal canvas for our city chic theme, and I knew with a simple colour palette, florals and plenty of flickering candles, the industrial space could really come to life.

Our best family friend, Elizabeth Wilkinson, is an interior designer. She furnished the room and dressed it with masses of greenery – ivy was wrapped around pilllars and bannisters and climbed up the walls, while olive branches and clusters of white candles in varying sizes sat on the long guest tables.

Naomi from Leaf and Honey created bouquets filled with blooming white peony-like garden roses and overflowing wild greens.

Our two-tiered cake by The Caker featured two mouth-watering flavours: gluten-free flourless dark chocolate, and lemon and raspberry.

For my dress, I took elements of styles I loved to the brilliant Anita at Vinka Design. Imported French lace formed the sleeves and bodice, while my fitted ivory skirt had a removable crepe silk train, ideal for dancing later in the evening. Statement earrings by Christie Nicolaides complemented the look.

A regular at Crane Brothers, Campbell wore one of the classic black suits with a white shirt and black bow tie, while his groomsmen wore the same bow ties and tailored suits by Working Style.

I wanted my bridesmaids to feel great, so we chose textured lace cocktail dresses by Shona Joy in different stylees to complement their body shapes.

To get the party started, my dad and brother Wilson did an impromptu act to Bruce Springsteen's Dancing in the Dark, which the guests loved. Then we all danced the night away!
