Adam and I met through his sister Rachel who is one of my good friends I met while working in retail when we were students. Adam had apparently noticed me at Rachel's parties over the years and had admired me from afar. When Adam first approached me I was focusing on my final law exams, I made my excuses to him whilst unknowingly revealing the precise date and time of my last exam. Four weeks later, immediately after my last exam Adam called me again. Out of excuses, I had no choice but to politely accept.

In November 2016 we were on a trip to Sydney to visit friends, celebrate our anniversary and attend a friend's hens night. Adam proposed on Bondi beach right before the hen's night so I was able to share the news and celebrate with my girlfriends straight away.

We were engaged for fourteen months and married in January 2018 at Cable Bay Vineyards on Waiheke Island surrounded by 140 friends and family including 17 of my relatives from Cyprus.

I wanted a black tie look and I didn't want to look too 'bridey'. I took a trip to Sydney to go wedding dress shopping. I fell in love with two expensive gowns which were out of my budget, and wasn't sure what to do. By chance I got really lucky and was able to buy the rack sample of one of the gowns I loved. My dress was the 'Kate' dress by Israeli designer Alon Livne from Helen Rodriguez Boutique. It is a modern style with a classic-deco feel. The front has a sweetheart neckline with fine straps embellished with beading and it is backless. The entire dress is covered in beading over a nude netted underlay and the small train features a scalloped edge all the way around. I originally wasn't going to wear a veil but I was pretty nervous about being the centre of attention and my beauty therapist told me that at her wedding she decided to wear a veil down the aisle because she could be in her own little world with a shield between her and the guests for that moment to prevent her getting too overwhelmed. That sold me and on the day I wore a friend's Oscar De La Renta veil as my 'something borrowed'.

Adam and his groomsmen wore black suits with crisp white shirts from Farage in Sydney.

I am Cypriot and it is custom for the bride to be blessed by members of the family with incense and a red scarf in a fertility ceremony before walking down the aisle. This ceremony took place at my father's Waiheke home.

Cable bay has some of the best food and wine I've ever tasted. Our guests enjoyed three courses served buffet style. The menu had a strong mediterranean influence and featured a wide variety of food. The raw bar was particularly popular, featuring a selection of Ora King Manuka cold smoked salmon, kingfish and tuna sashimi, prawns and oysters. There was also a charcuterie station with with a selection of cured meats and later leg of lamb and baked snapper.

Chef Max from Cable Bay created a three-tiered 'naked cake' that I requested. Each tier was a different flavour; white chocolate, dark chocolate and carrot cake. The extreme heat and humidity on the day melted the icing slightly and caused the whole structure to lean quite markedly to one side! We thought it was funny and added character to our day.

Blush flowers dressed the site with a generous amount of arrangements and curated beautiful bouquets and pocket flowers for the bridal parties. All of the flowers were white except for the bridesmaid's bouquets of roses in an ox-blood colour to match their gowns. Blush used roses, Lisianthus, Delphiniums and a mix of textural dark foliage to create my bouquet and on the tables there were white hydrangeas, white roses, snow berries, lisianthus and dark foliage.

Adam and I believe that starting with a normal, chilled out morning set the tone for our wedding relaxed approach all day. There was no drama and no major hiccups or tension, and we believe this was due to our attitude at the outset.
