Katy & Jordan

Jordan and I met on a night out in Auckland in 2014. He sat down next to me and we started talking about everything. There was something about him that made me feel safe and happy. We had our first official date the following Wednesday and have been together ever since. When we had been together almost two years Jordan took me for a walk in the Wither Hills in Blenheim. It was there, looking over the vineyards and the city that he proposed, and of course I said yes.

We scoured Marlborough for a venue, going to every winery we could find but nothing really worked for us. I'll never forget walking into Marlborough Vintners Hotel for the first time with its beautiful hills outside in the garden, the barrel room with its high wooden ceilings and curved roof. If felt like i was letting out a long held in breath, I knew this beautiful space was for us. We had our wedding on our third anniversary in November 2017.

My bridal Gown was actually made in 1958 by a Russian lady called Olga, she made the gown for my Grandmother who passed away when I was about 7 or 8. My Mum had held onto the Gown for so many years and then when my mum passed away from breast cancer in 2011, I knew that if I ever got married that I wanted to wear that gown to represent the amazing women who had passed away but who still influence my life. I knew that this was going to be a tricky one, but as luck would have it my brother fell in love with an amazing woman, April who is a talented and wonderful Fashion Designer and Pattern Maker. I couldn’t believe my luck that she actually said yes to helping me redesign the dress to fit me. My dress couldn’t have turned out any better, April re-imagined it and created an incredible gown that held true to the dress and made me feel absolutely beautiful.

The Groomsman wore light grey Hallensteins suits with a tie that matched the bridesmaids dresses, Jordan wore a dark grey suit as I really wanted him to stand out as the groom and I know he did too, I adored his simple and classic black tie, his boots were from Overland and he loves to wear them whenever he can, even around the house!

Mayflower Studio in Blenheim Central created our amazing flowers. They took my terrible description of what I wanted and turned it into stunning bouquets for my bridesmaids and myself along with small, simple and beautiful table centre pieces. Jordan and I didn't have a particular theme for our wedding. We wanted something that reflected our tastes and I adore deep purple. It's quite an elegant and formal colour.

Both Jordan and I agree that the most special moment of the day was the ceremony itself. It was the realisation as I walked down the aisle that this was our wedding day - we had made it.

My piece of advice for brides to be is to make sure you have snacks with you. The day gets so busy and it's easy to forget to eat so it's important you have some snacks to make sure the alcohol doesn't hit you so hard later in the day.
