James and I have attended the same church for as long as I can remember. In December 2016 we took a day trip to Taupo. James took me on a surprise scenic flight on a sea plane. The plane landed in our favourite secluded bay called Boat Harbour. We jumped out and the plane took off. James led me through the bush and to the top of a huge cliff that overlooks the lake, it was here that he got down on one knee and proposed. After that he had a picnic set up for us down by the beach where his dad's boat was parked for the trip home. It was the most incredible day and I wish I could relive it over and over.

We were engaged for 11 months and married in December surrounded by 170 friends and family at Saint Andrews Anglican Church in Taupo, followed by our reception at the beautiful Hilton Lake Taupo. James and I both spent a lot of family holidays in Taupo when we were growing up so it seemed like the perfect location for our wedding.

I knew I wanted quite a simple dress with a detailed back. Bridal designer Anna Schimmel made my dress, it was absolutely amazing. I had my dress chosen within half an hour of being in her studio. Anna also made me a long simple veil which I paired with crystal leaf-shaped earrings that my dad bought me from Hawaii, and a Swarovski leaf shaped bracelet.

My four bridesmaids wore blush dresses from Dessy Group. I wanted to do something special for their necklaces so I went to Pascoes and bought plain disk necklaces and got their initial engraved on them.

James and his groomsmen wore traditional black suits from Rembrandt. James wore a bow tie and his groomsmen wore skinny ties made from the same material.

Bloomin Flowers in Taupo did all our bouquets and floral arrangements. They were absolutely incredible to work with and the flowers were exactly what I wanted and more. I had a tear drop bouquet with white roses as I wanted the shape of the bouquet to match my crystal embellished collar on my dress. I also wanted something more traditional than modern. James’ button hole was a simple rose to match. The colour palette for the wedding was gold, white and green so the bridesmaids had something a little more modern with slightly apricot roses to match the colour of their dresses.

The guests enjoyed drinks and canapes in the Hilton garden before the reception started. Our reception meal was a sit down dinner that included smoked venison, beetroot, watercress, walnuts, goats cheese as an entree and then our guests had the choice of Angus eye fillet or free range chicken breast. Both main dishes were raved about but the most popular dish was definitely the steak. I have a huge sweet tooth so the cake was pretty important to me especially if it was going to be served as dessert. A family friend of James’ Tracey Gurney created it for us. It as a five tier cake and each tier was a different flavour - mud cake, white chocolate mud cake, lolly cake, carrot cake and salted caramel mud cake.

We borrowed three BMW vehicles from friends and family as our wedding transport.
