The Australian public have said they want to approve same-sex marriage in their country!
Ever since same-sex marriage became legal in New Zealand on 19 August 2013, modern Australian society has wanted a similar bill to be passed across the ditch. Today, the results from a postal survey was announced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
More than 12 million Australians voted in the survey, with 61.6 per cent in favour of marriage equality.
In total, 7,817,247 people voted 'yes' and 4,873,987 people voted 'no'.
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has said that it is now [the Government's] job to take the next steps and legally approve same-sex marriage.
"I say to all Australians, whatever your views on this issue may be, we must respect the voice of the people."
