3 Questions To Ask When Venue-Hunting

Finding your fairytale venue takes time and patience, but one of our favourite hostesses has some guidance to get you started.

Cassels is a purpose-built wedding venue in the Waitakere Ranges, less than 30 minutes’ drive from Auckland city.

Owner Leigh Browne is proud to have hosted many couples as they declare their vows in the romantic gardens, surrounded by native plants. She also knows the challenges couple face when deciding on a venue, particularly where to start on the questions you need to ask.

“A great starting point is to ask what the venue’s minimum and maximum numbers are for guests,” says Leigh. If you fall in love with the venue but they only hold a certain number then you can chat to your partner about whether your priority is location or numbers.

“If the space is right, enquire about styling the space. Can you bring personal decorations, what can the venue provide…” This will help you get a gauge on what decorating/styling costs you will need to budget for.

New Zealand is notorious for unpredictable weather, and Leigh suggests to ask, “Is there is a Plan B for bad weather?”. It’s a bonus if there is, because it will take a lot of stress and worry off your mind, knowing that you are prepared, rain, hail or shine!

Cassels can host your entire wedding, from ceremony to photographs and reception, and their ivy-covered entrance, in-built speakers, lily pond, French fountain and more means that you do not have to spend a lot to make this space look stylish. Just 15 minutes from Bethell’s Beach means there are many location options for photographs. There’s ample parking for the convenience of your guests, and they can cater for up to 120 people.
