Love our Summer cover girl’s radiant beauty look? Here, expert hair stylist and makeup artist Leisa Welch shares how to achieve it yourself.
The minute I saw our gorgeous model Juliette, I immediately thought she looked like a modern-day Bridgette Bardot. I wanted her hair and makeup look to be sexy and slightly disheveled with a nod to the icon of bygone years. Aiming for a naturally voluminous look, I started by applying a handful of Joico Power Whip and blow drying it with a large round brush. I used a large curling iron to create gentle curls, then pinned the coils in loops while the strands cooled down. A light sprinkling of Joico Structure Dust deconstructed the curl and create a sexy, bedhead result, then I finished with Joico Finishing Spray – the light formula lets the hair remain workable and moveable yet still gently held in place.
Juliette’s beautiful caramel cream skin deserves to be showed off, so I opted for a light layer of MAC’s Face & Body Foundation buffed with a kabuki brush to create a seamless finish. A gentle dusting of MAC Mineralize Foundation Loose set the hue and created a luminous sheen. For a sun-kissed finish, I blended Clarins’ Colours of Brazil Bronzing Compact atop the high points of Juliette’s face – those areas the sun would naturally hit. Finally, I applied highlight powder to the top of the cheekbones, the cupids bow and along the bridge of the nose. A sweep of peach blush warmed the look.
Using a soft eyeshadow brush, I surrounded Juliette’s eyes with a brown shadow, layering it for added intensity around the lashes. Next, I blended it with bronze and gold tones before sweeping a Samala Cosmetics Black Fluid Line across the lash line. I finished with a light layer of the Clarins bronzer up to the brow and under the eye to create a soft edged result. To finish the look, I used Brow Zings’ duo palette to fill in Juliette’s brows, along with a matching wax to add extra intensity. A smooth sweep of Samala Cosmetics ‘Sleek’ Lipstick – a soft pink hue – created a warm, natural pout.
