Tua and I first met in our early twenties when we flatted together, and both just knew. Tua proposed on Christmas day in 2015 in front of both our parents and a few family members but most importantly our children. We were engaged for 15 months and married in March 2017 at St Mary's Cathedral in Hamilton. Followed by our reception at The Atrium surrounded by 220 friends and family.

We chose to get married in St Mary's as we are both Catholic and our children go to the school connected to the church so it was meaningful to us. The Atrium was perfect for our reception as we loved the open, industrial space and it was large enough to cater to our guestlist.

We had quite a modern theme with a nod to the pacific - Luxe Pasifika if you will. We wanted to incorporate Tua's Samoan heritage in a modern way so we used palm print and gold foil in our invitations and had a lot of amazing greenery instead of flowers. We also had stunning shell chandeliers and an absolutely amazing green flower wall with Bird of Paradise flowers for a pop of colour.

I wanted a classic dress that was a little bit edgy and when I met my designer Anna Schimmel I knew she would create something beautiful for me. My dress was a nude silk with a mesh overlay with beading. It took almost 11 months to complete and the finished product fit me like a glove and was a work of art!

Tua and his groomsmen wore black on black. The entire look was built around a shirt that we found that was black with a subtle black leopard print through it. It sounds very Al Pacino but looked very cool!

Tua's most memorable moment of the day was hearing the roar of the 1964 Ford Thunderbird as I arrived. He peaked outside to look and said that I blew him away. My most memorable moment was walking up towards Tua, seeing his emotion, seeing the kids standing by him and also feeling incredibly calm and blessed to be in the moment.

Our cake was made by my Aunty who is a Food Stylist in Dubai. We had 3 layers and they were lemon, orange and almond and a chocolate mud. This cake was chosen because we love citrus cakes and we wanted chocolate lovers to have their fix as well.

Tuas cousins did a Samoan Dance and Samaon haka then I perfomed a Samoan dance for him. It added an extra layer of excitement and something different to the night.  This small touch got all the guests into the mood for the night. Our dance floor did not stop – there was no awkward no one dancing moments, it filled up fast and stayed busy all night!! Until pies were brought out at 11 pm for those who needed to soak up some alcohol.

When you have been together for such a long time and overcome many adversities it is pretty special getting married. In Tuas speech he said we were married in our hearts a long time ago, which is totally true but it was amazing getting married and proudly stating your love and commitment.
