Sam and I met online in 2013 in London. We came to New Zealand for a holiday to visit my family and it was Sam's first time here. He had planned a romantic proposal following a flight to Milford Sounds, however the West Coast weather ruined his plans. We went to Arrowtown for lunch instead and while hanging out at the river Sam ran over to me insisting he had found gold and held out the ring. I think I just sort of melted... and said yes of course!

We were engaged for a year and were married in December 2017 in the backyard of my family home surrounded by 60 friends and family. I am lucky enough to have grown up in an amazing spot and it seemed a waste not to use it. We were lucky as most of the garden was still in bloom and the weather was on our side.

I visited a few different Bridal shops in Lond and found a Pronovias gown that I loved. Unfortunately it was out of my price range and despite searching online, I couldn't find a second hand one. I eventually found a similar one in the 2018 Pronovias collection which I loved even more! It had a fitted bodice with illusion lace and a train. My grandmother's necklace was incorporated in my bouquet, which was really special as both she and my mother wore it on their wedding day. My sister brought her veil all the way from London and I forgot to wear it!

Sam wore a light grey suit with a light blue check by Without Prejudice. His groomsmen wore light chinos and light blue linen jackets. My bridesmaids wore long flowy dresses in my favourite shade of blue, purchased from ASOS.

We had a rustic, garden theme, making most of the decorations ourselves and getting a huge amount of help from our friends and family. My friend Tara was kind enough to do our bouquets and button holes with flowers mostly sourced directly from our garden and my mum's friend Penny did the beautiful flower arrangements for the the tables. Sam is a handyman back in London so he spent some time rummaging through the barn and managed to transform the horsefloat into an amazing bar!

Mum made a fruit cake and a chocolate Guiness cake which my Auntie helped decorate with flowers from the garden and the caterer made a big carrot cake. They were all set at different levels, one on a slab of stone, one on a chrystal cake stand and the third on a wooden stump. They were delicious.

We had a folk covers band called Coachella come down from Auckland because i'm in love with the look and sound of the double bass. The lead singer sang and played the piano during cocktail hour and later in the evening my brother in law Jorge became our DJ. He built his own booth and brought all his gear with him from London so 'Ministry of George' played on into the wee hours.

If I could give brides a piece of advise it would be always buy more bubbles than you think you need!
