Scott and I met in 2008 when he was coaching my younger brothers's rugby team. In 2014 it was my birthday and Scott told me we were going to go for a picnic dinner in the park across the road from our house. Fast forward to 5pm and it started to absolutely pour with rain! Poos Scott had to come up with a plan B on the fly so he moved everything out of our lounge and set up the picnic in there. I was proposed to in my living room with a beautiful picnic dinner.

We were engaged for about a year and a half and got married in March 2016 at Cossars Wineshed in Tai Tapu surrounded by about 81 friends and family plus the bridal party. We wanted a venue that would allow us to have the ceremony and the reception in the same place. Cossars Wineshed, with it's rustic, relaxed feel was perfect for our outdoor wedding.

I wanted a strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline and lace. I went into Wilkins Bridal and April picked me a dress. The first one i tried on was it! I also wore a beautiful lace veil, and some gorgeous nude/ blush heels. I only wore my every day jewellery apart from a special ring that my nana gave me that had a blue stone in it for my something borrowed and something blue.

All of the boys wore blue suits from Tarocash. Scott also wore a pocket watch that was my gift for him on the morning of our wedding.

Our wedding had a rustic / vintage feel. We wanted to be able to look back and everything to feel timeless. Our stylist Jess from Cressy Lane helped us make sure everything came together on the day. She set up the venue for us and even packed up on the night. We didn't want anything big, flashy or over the top. We wanted everyone to feel relaxed and have a heap of fun. I think that the atmosphere we created reflected that. The open bar was definitely a reflection of our personality as a couple! Saying our vows was a big highlight. We wrote our own and kept them hidden from each other. On the day it was remarkable to see just how similar they were.

Natalie-Rose Rutherford from Flowerhead created our flowers - that woman is a floral genius! For the bouquets we had a mix of hydrangeas, dahlias, snap dragons, queen anne's lace, daisies, lisianthus, gerberas and cineraria. For the rest of the decorations we had olive and eucalyptus for the hanging greenery. We wanted lots of green and white and a vintage feel. Everything Natalie-Rose did far exceeded my expectations!

We had a three tiered cake with a white textured buttercream finish. The cake was two flavours, the top two were lemon cake, lemon cure and lemon buttercream and the bottom was a white chocolate cake, boysenberry curd and white chocolate buttercream.

I arrived to the ceremony with the girls in a hotrod and a couple of muscle cars. My dad owns a hotrod and he roped in a few of his mates to drive us in their cars. We also used them to get to our photo locations after the ceremony.

We knew from the beginning that we wanted a band purely for the atmosphere that they create. We chose a band called 'Wolfpack' that we had seen at a friend's wedding. Everyone raved about the music and the guys learnt and played 'everlong' by the Foo Fighters for our first dance - unreal!

Decide from the beginning what you want your day to be about. For us it was a big party with our family and friends. Choose ONE thing to focus on and fit everything else around that. If you can afford one, invest in a stylist. They make your vision into a reality and you don't have to worry about the set up or the pack down!
