Hamish and I met in 2012 during a night out in downtown Auckland with mutual friends. I saw him across the dance floor and decided I might quite like to strike up a conversation. When it came to the proposal Hamish recreated our first date. We had thai food, followed by dessert and a walk on the beach ( it was September, it was freezing and sand was flying everywhere in the wind!). He asked me if I would marry him and I asked him if he would get down on one knee and try again.
We were engaged for 18 months and got married in April 2017 at Rippon Vineyard in Wanaka surrounded by 72 friends and family. We chose Wanaka as it's the first place we ever went on holiday as a couple. I love the Autumn colours and the chill but clear blue sky days so it was the perfect location and time of year for us.
Katie from Hera Bridal designed my two piece dress. I knew I wanted a classic look, and the dress and lace bolero was perfect. I also had a lace cape made for the dancing part of the night for more movement. A belt and vintage hair piece and matching earrings borrowed from my cousin completed the look.
Hamish and his groomsmen wore French navy classic dinner suits from Frank Casey. The groomsmen wore simple black ties and Hamish wore a bow tie as a point of difference.
Before our wedding we jumped in a helicopter with our whole bridal party and sipped champagne on top of Roys Peak while taking photos. It was a fantastic chance to relax and enjoy our time together before all of our guests arrived.
Our wedding theme was classic and elegant. I wanted something that wouldn't date. Each table card had a picture of either the bride or groom with that person and on the back was a personalised message from us for each person. We gathered and displayed photos of our parents, grandparents and siblings wedding photos next to our guest book to bring in a sense of family. Our daughter walked down the aisle with us, reflecting our choice to enter marriage as a family, rather than have me be 'given away'.
We had a semi naked cake made by Aspiring catering. It was two tiers, one was Raspberry and white chocolate and one tier sticky ginger apple and caramel.
