Despite being engaged for nearly a year and half, Gus and I organised our wedding in just two months! After our engagement, our first child Willow Frankie was born, throwing all wedding plans out the window. Luckily, as the owner of the online weddings gift registry and store Mildred&Co, weddings are kind of my ‘thing,’ and with styling guru Claire from One Lovely Day by my side we were able to bring it all together in record time.
Ostro Brasserie ticked all the boxes for us – views of the Waitemata Harbour, a cool, vibrant atmosphere and incredible food and wine. We originally wanted a cocktail-style wedding, but could only book for a Sunday, so decided on a relaxed long lunch-style wedding with a guest list of 160.
My Rue de Seine gown was so different to what I’d imagined wearing on my wedding day, but its relaxed modern look with its halter neckline and front seam split tied in perfectly with our theme. I went a bit crazy and bought three pairs of earrings for the day, but in the end Mum leant me vintage wing-shaped diamond earrings as something ‘borrowed’.
Gus had been waiting patiently for his wedding day to splash out on a custom made suit and getting it made at Crane Brothers was a no-brainer. Owner, Murray Crane, helped him choose a smart dark blue suit that would look good now, as well as in ten years’ time.
My go-to for florals, Lucy from Lu Diamond Flowers went above and beyond. She also fashioned a lush archway out of foliage and flowers in varying shades of pinks and white, while ivy climbed the concrete pillars and a long leafy green garland hung over the table where Gus and I sat.
I wanted something unique for the cake, choosing a distinctive marble-effect design in black and white. My friend Karla of Bluebells Cakery fame, created this with two tiers in delicious lemon and raspberry.
We’d envisioned our day as one big party, and that’s exactly what we got! The ambience from beginning to end was happy, rowdy and fun – just the way we wanted it.
