PJ and I originally met in 2006, however we didn’t start dating until 2014. After I met PJ for the first time he became by secret admirer. He knew where I worked and would drop off anonymous birthday presents and do sneaky drive bys to look in and see me. One day he messaged me on Facebook and said he had moved into a new place and asked me to design the interior. It was a lie to get me to come over! Finally almost 8 years later we were dating, 11 years later we were married!

PJ proposed in December of 2015.  It was on a weeknight and I was having dinner with my friends. I remember it was getting pretty late so I left and got home at about 10:30. I made it up the stairs and immediately I saw rose petals and candles on the floor leading out to the garden. As I looked closer through the sheer curtain fabric into the garden I could see tiny-lit candles all over the grass and a silhouette of PJ standing in between these stunning, tall flower vases. I was so incredibly shocked everything was so beautiful. He then went down on one knee and proposed! My mum, sister, now sister-in-law and dogs all jumped out of my mums bedroom having recorded the proposal. It was such a magical evening.

We got married in March 2017 at Everybody’s in Auckland surrounded by 100 friends and family. We had a Persian ceremony as we are both Persian and we wanted an urban wedding, simple and elegant. The brick, the concrete, the leather, the timber, the vines and the velvet were all added details of the buildings that surrounded us or the beautiful details of the venue itself.

My very talented mother made my dress! It was perfect and amazing. It was long sleeve, classic with a little train and had a beautiful beading all over it.

We decided to have a Persian ceremony. We thought it would be special to share something new and cultural with our close friends. The ceremony is arranged in front of the guests. The bride and groom sit in front of a low table that is decorated with symbolic items that represent elements of the couples new life and marriage together.

The mirror represents bringing light & brightness into their future

The candles symbolises energy & clarity

The herbs are placed on the spread to guard against the evil eye

The persian bread symbolises prosperity for feasts

The eggs, almond & walnuts represent fertility for the couple

The pomergranates & apples represent a joyous future

The rock candy symbolises a sweetened life

The coins represent wealth & prosperity

The honey represents sweetness for the couple's life

The rosewater is used to perfume the air

The Quran symbolises God's blessing for the couple

The needle & thread symbolises 2 people becoming one

There were so many things we did ourselves! I designed our wedding invitations, seating plan and menus. (I am also a designer and have a company called Lulu + Pej where I make bespoke stationary) We bought the flowers and greenery and made them into bouquets!

We bought Whitakers L&P (Lena &Pejmon) bars as our favours with guests names attached to them on little cards.

Having a video done for our wedding was a great decision. Looking back at the videos is honestly like re-living that day with all the emotions and activities we did. The wedding day goes by so fast and you are so busy. The video reminds us of how much fun we had.
