Hey Mr DJ: Your Entertainment Need-To-Knows

On the hunt for a DJ to help get the party started on your wedding day? We chat with Matt Naylor from Addictive DJs about what to do and what to look for in a wedding DJ.

There's no better way to get the party started than having a killer music playlist and a DJ to mix it! CEO and pro DJ Matt Naylor from Addictive DJ's gave us the run down on his top tips for booking the DJ you want.

TELL US MORE ABOUT THE ADDICTIVE DJ'S TEAM.

We’ve provided a professional wedding DJ for at least 700 weddings in over 11 years of Addictive DJ’s history and every single wedding we play at is unique in many ways, ranging from a number of guests to your mix of ages and cultural backgrounds.

We match your DJ to fit your music tastes, along with matching you on a personal level. All of our DJs are super passionate and have the right attitude too!

WHERE DO WE BEGIN SELECTING A DJ FOR OUR WEDDING?

The best way to do this is figure out what you’re looking for in entertainment and making a short list of who can help to make your vision a reality.  The easiest place to start is with your venue – which vendors do they recommend?

If you’ve selected a company who isn’t familiar with your venue, can they meet you there to walk you through things? Will they help you to sort out your special ceremony / reception songs and a range of party music? Can they take guest requests on the night? There’s a lot to think about but the more questions you can ask (and get answered) the better.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD DJ IN YOUR OPINION?

A good DJ is simply someone who will play the right music at the right time. Reading the crowd to play a great selection of music throughout your wedding is vital in making sure that everyone will remember your wedding forever (and for the right reasons)!

WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT SHOULD OUR WEDDING DJ PROVIDE?

Your DJ should provide a reliable, tidy sound system and party lighting to suit your venue and number of guests, tested and tagged power cables required to run their gear, and a sound system for your ceremony if they’re taking care of it for you. Either your DJ or venue should supply a wireless microphone for your celebrant, MC and speeches as well.

WHAT ARE THREE GUARANTEED FLOOR-FILLER WEDDING TUNES?

There’s so much choice! It really depends on the crowd and the time of night but we would have to expect Footloose by Kenny Loggins, Love Shack by The B-52's, and almost anything by Bruno Mars to get everyone out on the floor.

HOW CAN WE ENSURE THERE'S A GOOD MIX OF SONGS FOR ANY TYPE OF WEDDING CROWD?

The #1 rule for getting anything sorted is to sit down with your vendors and give them as much detail as possible; age range, number of guests, what music you like, what music you want played for your guests, and the balance of friends vs. family are all significant factors in the right music being played for you and your guests.

WHAT MAKES ADDICTIVE DJ'S STAND APART FROM THE REST?

We want to give you an unforgettable experience both on your special day and before we get there. We’re very proud to provide the best service in the industry, shown by our our WIANZ trophy for Outstanding Wedding Entertainment, and we have the right tools and systems in place along with giving you the right advice to ensure we can make your vision a reality, all with a minimal amount of stress.

WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT BEING A WEDDING DJ?

We LOVE the look in a groom’s eyes when he sees his bride for the first time, walking down the aisle in her gorgeous wedding dress. Helping to make any wedding even more special with great music is so rewarding for us and that begins well before the big day arrives.
