For their fifth anniversary, Nick surprised Karen with a sky high proposal – and caught it all on camera. Here's their story:
“I’m Karen Hart, and my fiancé’s name is Nick Kidd. We live together in our beautiful home in Massey, West Auckland.
We met through friends fourteen year ago when I was just fifteen and over the next ten years we were very close friends. I would say he was one of my best friends, but that all started to change in 2012…
We been together five years; the five most loved up happy years of my life!
I got engaged to the love of my life on May 5th, 2017. It still leaves me a little speechless.
We had gone to the Gold Coast with my family to celebrate my mum’s 60th birthday.
On our five-year anniversary, Nick had organised for us to go up the Q1 building to the Sky Point. We took off on our date day to enjoy some stunning views, and it was up there that he got down on one knee.
Nick had managed to set up video cameras before I got to the spot where it happened. Although I hate seeing myself ball my eyes out – I am so glad he did this! We have been able to share our happiest moment with friends and family and I get to watch it over and over myself.
I think it is still sinking in for me; I knew he was the man I was going to marry, but he really took me by surprise. I don't think there has been a day in my life where I have both smiled and cried so much.
'Fiancé', I have heard and said that word in the past to so many of my friends, yet it makes me blush and giggle every time he says it to me.
I am lucky enough to get to say I am marrying my best friend! I love us. I love him. I can't wait for our forever.
Nick already had the ring before he proposed. His brother Jacob was there when he bought the ring, providing support and an alibi at the same time.
My brother Mason was the mule, carrying the ring over to Australia, and keeping it hidden until the day. My ring is perfect! He did so good, it is such a ‘Karen’ ring – a beautiful white gold solitaire engagement ring, which I am so in love with. I can't stop smiling every time I catch a glimpse of it.
I can't wait to start planning our wedding! A wedding that suits both of us and our personalities.
I really can’t wait to start looking in to colours and themes, and what goes well together, there are so many options!
I also really can't wait to start looking at dresses. I have been a bridesmaid seven times, yet I have no idea what kind of dress I like or want or even what suits me. I am not a big shopper, but I really can't wait to start looking round.
The thing I am least looking forward to about planning our wedding is the guest list. I have watched my three best friends and my sisters go through this already and have seen first-hand the dramas that can potentially develop.
Hopefully we are able to avoid that and just surround ourselves with happy people and positive vibes. For now, we are happy to enjoy the moment and we will see how everything else unfolds."
