Jeremy and I met in youth group. We knew each other for five years before we got together. He was a couple of years younger than me and I wasn’t interested. After losing touch for a little while I saw him again with new eyes – he had grown up a lot.
From the first day we officially got together we knew that we wanted to get married one day. After seven months of dating we were on holiday with my family in Whangamata. Jeremy and I went for an evening walk on the beach. When we were finally alone he got down on one knee and popped the question. When we got back to the bach his family had arrived for the night and we celebrated with a BBQ!
We were engaged for one year before getting married in January 2017 at St George’s Anglican Church in Auckland before a beautiful reception at Soljans Estate Winery in Kumeu. We had between 250 and 300 guests at our ceremony and 120 at the reception.
The boys wore slim fit black suits with a skinny black tie from Hallensteins. Jeremy wore a textured white shirt and the groomsmen’s shirts were textured and pale lavender to match the bridesmaids dresses. Jeremy gave the boys personalised cufflinks that said our wedding date and “bestman/groomsman” on them. I gifted Jeremy personalised cufflinks also that had C&J and the date on one and ‘I was made for loving you…’ on the other, which was our ceremony song.
My dress was very traditional and princess like. It was A-line with quite a few netted layers, with a sweet-heart neckline and a fitted bodice. It had lace and a few sparkles, thick lace straps and small fabric covered buttons down the back. It had quite a long train and I also had a cathedral Veil.
We had both been to weddings at St George’s before and thought it was a beautiful church to be married in. We chose to have our reception at Soljans as I worked there as a waitress for five years and had always admired the beautiful weddings held there.
Our flowers were made up of standard and spray roses, lisianthus, lambs ear, alstroemeria, standard carnations and gypsophila. They were very soft colours, lavender, pale pink and white which matched perfectly with the bridesmaids dresses.
Everyone knows that we love music and dancing and so my brother Samuel, his wife Krysta and Samuel’s best friend played and sung our hymn during the ceremony. We also had a friend play guitar and sing for a couple of hours before speeches outside in the courtyard at Soljans. For the reception we chose a band that Jeremy has sung with before.
The highlight of my day had to be when Jeremy got up with the band and sang to me at our reception.
Our cake was a three tiered chocolate mud cake with white chocolate ganache. We both love chocolate cake! We had a lolly bar with a HUGE range of lollies.
We took dance lessons for our first dance which was great couple bonding!
