Larissa & TK

I was living and working in Dunedin at the Fortune Theatre when TK visited from Auckland for the 2012 season of his solo theatre show. On the Monday morning he came into my office and shook my hand, in that moment my world stopped. He asked me out on the Wednesday and from that night we were inseparable. After six months of long distance dating TK moved to Dunedin and in May 2013 we both moved back to Auckland.

TK didn’t want to get married in black, so he and Phoenix wore red custom made suits from Suitopia in Sweden. They both wore matching wooden ties and suspenders from Wood and Beau.

Wood & Beau Australia put together personalised groomsmen packages, which contained the wooden bow tie, suspenders, King Brown Pomade and socks. TK added fragrance, shaving cream and moisturisers from Native for Men, this was all packaged up with a personal message written from TK to each of his groomsmen.

From my initial thoughts of my wedding dress, I wanted something simple and sexy with a low back and high neck. This was the first dress I tried on, and it was perfect. I couldn't see myself in anything else. My dress is made from crepe material, there is a lot of fabric! It’s long sleeve with gorgeous fabric covered buttons running up the sleeves, a low back with fabric buttons from the lower back over the bum, a gorgeous bateau/boat neckline which sits perfectly over the shoulders to support the low back.

We got married on labour weekend 22 OCtober 2016, in my hometown of Alexandra. The ceremony was at my parents’ home, at the top of their hill overlooking the Old Man and Old Women Ranges in Central Otago. The open landscape, surrounded by hills, sky and lots of family and friends felt right for us.

The highlight of my day was my vows, I worked on them for months. I’m not the best at public speaking, but my vows came naturally - tears upon tears, but I truly lived in the moment and relished the whole time. TK and I both wrote our own vows and I also wrote and said vows to my stepson Pheonix.

We had amazing cars. The ladies rode in a dusk rose over French white 1957 Buick, a Red 1956 Chev coupe and a Red and white 1955 Chev convertible. The lads rode in a Brown 1973 Ford Fairlane, a brown 1971 Ford Falcon and a Brown Ford Valiant.

I purchased flowers from Fallow and Fox in Dunedin. On the Friday evening at 10pm myself, my bridesmaids and cousin transformed ourselves into florists and made all of the bridal party bouquets and flower arrangements for the ceremony and reception - it was so much fun!

My best piece of advice would be to make sure every decision you make is your own decision. Trust your gut and don’t try and please anyone but yourselves.
