Looking for a one-stop for all your pre-wedding beauty treatments? The Beauty Hub specialises in everything from lash extensions to hair and makeup lessons. We talked to Rachel Mackwood about treatments, timing, and all the tricks in between.

WHICH BRIDAL TREATMENTS ARE THE MOST POPULAR TO HAVE IN THE LEAD-UP TO WEDDING DAY AND WHY?

Rachel: "We do a lot of eyelash extensions for brides. It is a great treatment for any woman because not only do the lashes look super-beautiful, she can get the most out of them if done prior to the wedding – for the hen's party and also the honeymoon.

Bridal eyelash extensions are generally more natural; creating the illusion of thickness rather than length. However, it is important to look at each client individually and assess what will suit them and what look do they want to go for.

With eyelash extensions it is important that they are professionally applied by a trained technician. This will eliminate any damage to the natural lash and they will feel light and comfortable the whole time they are on. The great advantage about lashing extensions is that there is no need for mascara. Not only does this save you time but also saves any fall down and black areas around the eyes.

As the photographers often like to get shots of the bride looking down at her ring this is a great opportunity to show off those beautiful lashes. When the correct lash length and thickness is carefully placed using an isolation technique of one on one lash, lashes can appear soft, light and feathery.

Unfortunate you do get what you pay for as the price is often done on time. My advice is not to go for a cheaper option as the lashes will be poor quality and they will be applied quickly and they could be troublesome and painful."

WHICH BIG-DAY BEAUTY TREATMENT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST INVESTMENT?

"In my opinion, getting the skin to its optimum condition is a great investment for any bride. You do need time for this to happen as you may need to correct, change or balance the skin to get it to glow.

Starting a few months before with a good therapist that can work out a treatment plan to prepare your skin for the big day. A common mistake is that brides go for one facial and expect the skin to look amazing. If you want gorgeous skin on your big day you need to put in the time for your skin to adapt.

Drinking lots of water also helps hydrates the skin from the inside. I am in love with a skincare product called ASAP, an Australian skincare brand that is scientifically proven to get results simply and swiftly. We also stock a range from Medik8 that again matched with the client can achieve outstanding results. Combined with an LED light therapy session or some skin needling with each facial we can guarantee any bride to look radiant."

WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON BEAUTY TREND WE'LL SEE IN 2017?

"The latest beauty trend to hit the market this year in 2016 in New Zealand and will definitely be making an even bigger appearance in 2017 is the fat loss treatment called Cavi Lipo. This treatment is a safe alternative to lipo-suction.

The ultrasonic waves that are generated through a handheld gun break down the fat cells so they can be eliminated from the body. It is completely safe and pain-free. There is no down time and you can return to work as soon as the treatment is finished. This treatment is designed for areas that do not respond to diet and exercise rather than an all over body treatment. Often brides will go on a wedding diet to look good for the big day and a few treatments with the Cavi Lipo machine can just give them that extra bit of confidence to walk down the aisle feeling slim."

WHAT SHOULD BRIDES CONSIDER WHEN SEARCHING FOR A BEAUTY THERAPIST?

"As with any supplier for your big day I think the biggest thing when choosing a therapist is that they are a professional that has experience.

Being trained is one thing but actually working with clients over a number of years and send lots of different cases helps to build a great therapist. You will be spending a lot of time with your therapist so when choosing the right one you may need to consider personality. Do you like them? Are they nice to spend time with? And do they listen to your concerns and can get you the results you are after? You can generally tell after a consultation whether your time together is going to be pleasurable in the lead up to the wedding.

Also at this time you can assess the quality of equipment and hygiene being used in the salon. How easy is it to get an appointment? Will they accommodate you if you need to be seen at a particulars times? In the wedding lead up you are going to be extremely busy so fitting in your beauty appointments with your therapist will need to be accommodating for you.

This not only applies to your beauty therapist but your hair and make-up artist for the wedding day. Having a laugh or being comfortable in their presence is very important for enjoying the preparation time before your actually wedding."

ARE THERE ANY MISTAKES BRIDES OFTEN MAKE WHEN IT COMES TO PRE-WEDDING BEAUTY TREATMENTS?

"Timing would probably be the biggest mistake that brides sometimes don't always get right. This is where choosing a professional that is experienced with weddings will really help you.

They understand that you have one million things to do in the lead up to the wedding and rushing around for appointments with traffic is not conducive to a relaxed bride.

Cramming in last-minute appointments or trying to get five people ready in a short space of time is just going to add unwanted stress to your day. It is a better idea to allow more time to get ready and only have one thing to focus on each day before the lead up to the wedding. You don't want to be tired, stressed or even ill before the wedding day if you can help it and making a plan can really help to eliminate this.

Also having a trial for your spray tan, nails, hair and make-up, and pre-planning any beauty appointments will really help. Along with lots of sleep!"
