Aaron and I met 10 years ago through his twin brother Jason, and first started dating in March 2007. Aaron proposed on Christmas morning 2014. I was lying in bed with a headache and he came up beside me and placed the box on my chest and asked if that would make me feel better. He got down on one knee and asked the question I had been waiting for a few years. Of course I said yes!
My dress was a Venus strapless gown with a pleated bodice, sash and lace up back. The skirt was A-line with lace overlay. I wanted something that suited by body shape and felt romantic.
We had never been to Rarotonga, or any other island for that matter but so many of our friends and family had visited and loved it. I am yet to hear anyone say anything bad about Rarotonga. Rarotonga provided amazing weather and it was like having a holiday with all our favourite people.
My most memorable moment of the day was seeing Aaron shed a few tears as I came down the aisle with my dad. That was very special as I don’t think I’ve ever seen him cry in the 10 years I’ve known him.
There were a few special touches that included our family. My mum sewed our wedding date onto the inside of my wedding dress. I wore Aaron’s Nana’s ring on the day and my Grandmother’s cameo broach featured in my bouquet. Our mums signed the wedding certificate as witnesses.
As guest favours we had small glass vials filled with Rarotongan sand and a little note of thanks with our names and wedding date. These served as a keepsake and reminder of wonderful days our guests shared with us.
