Part of the Dream Team of suppliers providing our lucky Win Your Dream Wedding 2015 winners with a $60,000 wedding and honeymoon of a lifetime, we spoke to cake creators Sweet Bites Cakes and asked:

What do you offer in terms of wedding cakes?

We offer a personal service; we can customise and create a truly original, one-of-a-kind cake for a couple, or they can bring us their inspiration and ideas. We love a challenge and will always try to accommodate any design request.

What are some of the most popular trends for wedding cakes right now?

Metallic elements are on the rise, and we’re continuing to see a large number of couples opting for rustic-themed cakes.

What’s the most extravagant cake you’ve ever created for a wedding?

We created two huge cakes for a couple celebrating their wedding with a two-day celebration. Each cake provided 350 servings and required assembly at the venues using a ladder.

What’s the best style of cake for the couple on a budget?

If you’re catering for less than 70 guests, a cupcake tower with top cake for cutting can often be a cheaper option than a tiered cake. Using false layers made from polystyrene is a popular option for couples wanting a big centrepiece cake on a limited budget.

What’s the most fun part of creating a cake for a couple?

Incorporating a bit of personality into the cake design to make their wedding cake special to them. This could be a design replicated from the groom’s tie or lace from the bridal gown; we’ve hidden sugar skulls among fondant flowers and hand-painted tattoos onto icing, and we've even been asked to make Minion-sized versions of a couple to sit on the back of the cake as a surprise.
