The divine venue for this year’s Win Your Dream Wedding nuptials, Hauraki Blue Cruises is no ordinary spot in which to marry the love of your life. In the lead-up to discovering our lucky winners, we found out just how special it is.

Your four-level cruise catamaran offer couples the most spectacular setting for their wedding: the Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf. What are some of the sights they and their guests might take in?
We Aucklanders are so lucky to have the spectacular Hauraki Gulf right at our back door. The Hauraki Gulf islands truly are treasure islands, full of beautiful sandy beaches and native wildlife, and as you cruise out of the harbour and into the gulf, you’ll be delighted by the ever-changing views of islands, sea and sky. We often see dolphins, orca, little blue penguins and seals during our cruises. One of our favourite islands to visit is Motuihe – it’s pest-free so there are all kinds of endangered species including kiwi, kakariki, bellbirds and tuatara. Sometimes we see kiwi footprints on the beach!

What’s the biggest surprise you’ve had during a wedding on board?
We’ve had all kinds of weddings on board – we’ve even hosted a naked wedding – but every celebration is unique. Recently we’ve had a bride who had three different wedding dresses, each more stunning than the last, and a groom who surprised his bride with little gifts throughout the day. His romantic gestures and her reactions were really special.

Are couples able to style the ship as they see fit?
Absolutely. Of course, when you’re surrounded by incredible scenery, you don’t have to go all out on the decorations, but anything’s possible. Features like fairy lights, bunting and floral arrangements all look stunning on board. For safety reasons, we can’t allow open flames, and decorations need to be well secured to make sure they stay put as we cruise.

What are the best things about staying on board overnight with your guests?
A wedding cruise has all the excitement of a destination wedding, without the hassle. You get to celebrate with just your favourite people, then relive the memories over breakfast the next day. Plus, when the bridal party takes off for photos, your guests can swim, kayak or snorkel from the boat, so you don’t need to worry about keeping them entertained.

Why is marrying on board Hauraki Blue Cruises the height of romance?
There’s something very special about leaving the city behind and cruising out to sea. Being on board with your family and closest friends creates such an intimate and private setting, you’ll feel as if you’re a whole world away. And with the Pacific Ocean and Hauraki Gulf islands as your backdrop, you’re guaranteed to have stunningly romantic photos.
