New Zealand Weddings spoke to Rachel Casey-Mills from Frank Casey as they prepared our Dream Wedding groom, Nicholas Zidich, for his moment in the spotlight.
Tell us some of the history behind Frank Casey Suit Hire?
Frank Casey established his first suit hire business 26 years ago after noticing an obvious gap in the menswear market. Offering quality men’s garments and accessories, one flagship store soon became seven stores nationwide .
What style is the most popular – suit or tuxedo?
We have two styles that currently reign supreme – one being a classic dinner suit that is flattering for all shapes and sizes, the other a slim-fit, satin lapel suit – it’s dressy without being too over the top.
How soon after a couple becomes engaged should they visit you for a consultation and fitting?
We recommend booking two or three months in advance to ensure the style and colours you have in mind are available. Typically we see both the bride and groom on their first consultation to choose suits and accessories, followed by ‘the boys’ – the groom’s entourage – for their fittings.
How are your suits unique from other stores or designers?
There’s nothing worse than being forced to pay exorbitant prices that are out of your reach just because you can’t find the right fit for one of your groomsmen. The beauty of what we do is that we can provide a wide variety of sizes and styles that some retailers don’t cater for, minus the designer price tag.
What is one way for the groom to stand out from his groomsmen?
Opt for a different coloured tie or flower rather than making a bold statement. It’s all in the details!
What is one trend that grooms are asking for right now?
Slim fit suits are trending. In terms of colour, black is enduringly popular but navy and grey are certainly having their time in the limelight.
Who is a celebrity groom whose suit you admire?
David Beckham still rates at the top of my list – even though his nuptials were over a decade ago! Whether it’s a morning suit, dinner suit, or business suit, David always looks like elegance personified.
What are three questions a groom should ask before deciding on his suit?
1) How does it look? Does it fit well; is it tailored in the right places?
2) How does it make me feel?
3) Does it match the level of formality as my bride’s attire?
Do you have any tips for a groom who is choosing his suit on a budget?
Just because you’re on a budget doesn’t mean you have to look like you are. Hiring is a great way to get a quality ensemble without paying the earth. No one wants to wear a cheap suit on their wedding day – you want to be looking and feeling your absolute best.
Any other advice?
If you’re getting married in summer, make sure you have some extra shirts on hand – the wet look does not translate well to photos!
