    Bring out the bubbles! Ahead of the release of our Spring 2014 issue, we were thrilled to take away five accolades at the Magazine Awards. 

    Best Publishing Innovation went our 2013 Fashion Week Experience with its two catwalk shows, a beauty seminar and a cake exhibition.

    The judges’ comments were full of praise, describing the Fashion Week Experience as ‘A multi-dimensional initiative that brought the magazine to life, engaged with its audience and advertisers, and delivered an exceptional return on investment.’

    Autumn 2013’s Love at Veronica Bay fashion story, shot by Carolyn Haslett, was awarded Best Use of Photography – Celebrity and Women’s Interest. Hitting shelves ahead of the release of Baz Lurhmann’s The Great Gatsby, the concept stemmed from the emerging fashion and styling trend of the 1920s, blending imagery with graphic design for wholly dreamlike yet aspirational effect.

    ‘The style and setting of this spread perfectly matched the vintage nostalgic subject, without relying on cliché filters,’ said judges. ‘This entry had great flow throughout the whole feature with good use of smaller details in the layout.’

    With its matte white background and metallic illustration – a bold departure from our conventional cover approach – the New Zealand Weddings Planner 2014 won Best Cover for the Celebrity and Women’s Interest category.

    And for the second year running, New Zealand Weddings designer Samantha Smith took away Best Designer – Specialist Titles, while editor Melissa Gardi received Highly Commended recognition for Best Editor in the Celebrity and Women’s Interest category.
