  • Display giant glass jugs of homemade lemonade in different flavours and colours at your garden party.
  • Serve shot glasses filled with refreshing sorbets that mirror the colour theme
  • of your wedding.
  • Add drama to a city extravaganza with food stations, such as a Chinese wok stand and sushi bar complete with chef. You could even order a mobile wood-fired oven – visit fired.net.nz.
  • Involve guests by setting up themed food tables, where they can customise each dish to their preference. Tasty options include a Mexican taco-making selection, a seafood and salad bar, or an ice-cream sundae buffet.
  • Provide special kids’ food, for example, mini sausages on sticks, little cheese and bacon pizzas, cookies and milk.
  • Have an international theme. Serve limoncello and tiramisu at an Italian wedding, mezze if you’re going for a Middle Eastern vibe, or steamed prawn dumplings in bamboo baskets for an Asian affair.
  • Use small paua shells as salt-and-pepper pinch pots at a beach wedding.
  • Have a brunch wedding with gourmet pancakes, eggs benedict, French toast and other breakfast classics, served buffet-style on chic platters.
  • Be creative with your presentation. Simple green olives look great in a martini glass and anything from salt-and-pepper squid to jelly beans will work in a Chinese takeaway box.
  • Get nostalgic and serve you and your groom’s favourite childhood dishes. It could be macaroni and cheese, or your nana’s incredible pavlova.
  • Opt for a dessert wedding. These are usually two- to three-hour afternoon affairs featuring champagne, cake and coffee instead of a full meal.
