Whether you’re planning carefree curls or a sleek ballet bun, our wedding-ready hair guide will help you nail the look.
First thing’s first
Think about what hairstyle suits your personality and dress style. For example, if you're a laid-back person donning a floaty, casual dress, steer away from a sleek, intense bun or twist. Or if you have short hair and love it, flaunt it. Use your bridal hairstyle as an opportunity to reflect the true you.
Getting the colour formula right is essential. Establish a plan with your hairdresser and work towards the ideal colour for the day. Do this as soon as possible – at least a few months ahead of the day – because it may take a few sessions to achieve the colour you want. Be sure as well to ask your hairdresser which shampoos, conditioners and treatments you should be using – the right products can go a long way to transforming the look and feel of your hair.
Your next move
Six to eight weeks before the day, find images of hairstyles that you like and show them to your stylist during a trial. Give them a description of your dress and the accessories you're wearing so they can factor these elements in to your final look - if you plan on wearing a head piece, be sure to take it to the trial. Remember to ask your stylist how far in advance of the big day you should wash your hair – often, squeaky clean tresses will be unable hold together in an updo.
Get your hair trimmed two weeks before the wedding to ensure it's in optimum condition and remove split ends. In the week leading up to the day, indulge in a hydrating treatment at your salon. It’ll give your hair the final dose of moisture needed for a luscious look.
