Up against Fiji’s 30 degree-plus heat and through-the-roof humidity levels, MAC makeup artist Carolyn Haslett turned Summer cover girl Tahnee into every bit the beach goddess. Her brief? Keep the look relaxed, natural and romantic – and make sure it lasts the whole shoot.

Laying the Foundation
‘To give Tahnee’s skin a smooth, post-sunscreen finish – and help her makeup last longer in the humidity and heat – I applied MAC’s prep + prime skin. Ahead of the shoot, Tahnee had applied fake tan to her body, but had stopped at the bottom of her neck. For a seamless transition, I applied MAC’s face and body foundation from the neck upwards, using my hands to work the foundation into the skin. I finished the look with Mac’s blot powder, which set the foundation and reduced shine without altering the colour of the foundation.

Barely-there lip colour
‘To complete the look I dabbed a berry lipstick shade onto Tahnee’s lips using my fingertips. Blotting afterwards gave the lips a slightly stained look – the perfect balance between an au naturel and a heavily hued pout. ‘

Blushing bride
‘I defined Tahnee’s cheekbones by mixing a bronze blush – applied the length of her cheekbones – with a hint of pink cream blush, which I dabbed in place with my fingertips. The mix of bronze and pink gave Tahnee’s look a summery, feminine glow. ‘

Nearly-natural eyes
‘To enhance Tahnee’s eyebrows, I used MAC’s eye brows – a wind-up brow pencil – brushing it through the brow with light, even strokes for a naturally defined look. I coated her eyelids with light brown eyeshadow before darkening her lashline and outer eye corners with a dark brown eye shadow, gently blending with a slightly lighter brown shade to soften the look Next, I curled her lashes before applying two coats of black waterproof mascara.’
